Conor McGregor doesn’t look like his former self – a wispy 145/55-pound pugilist, known for his athleticism. And, fans are perplexed as to its reason.
Ever since Conor McGregor broke his leg against Dustin Poirier last year, pictures posted on his official social media handles can be seen to be showing a sharp increase in weight, which can be attributed to muscle bulk by the Irishman.
Fans, however, were starting to get puzzled by the sheer volume of muscle “Mystic Mac” had packed on. For all intents and purposes, McGregor is still enjoying off-season, as far as his fight career is concerned. He has teased his return multiple times, but with no clear date in sight, the nature of his bulk has baffled the MMA fanbase.
Those questions have been answered now. It has been confirmed that the Irishman will star in a new-age remake of the Hollywood classic, “Road House”, starring Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead. McGregor himself has shared a few snaps and videos from the set, where he can be seen practising his acting chops. McGregor will play a UFC fighter in the movie, in a supporting role.
It doesn’t seem like McGregor will be a fish out of water – his charm was bound to find a natural import which didn’t involve him punching people’s faces clean off, and it looks like it has.
Along with Conor McGregor, Jake Gyllenhaal himself has knowledge of beefing up – he packed on 28 pounds of lean muscle in just about 6 months, preparing for his movie, Southpaw.

While fans may be bemused by Conor McGregor’s changed physical avatar, it should come as no surprise that he is fairly used to letting his body weight move up and down, as per the requirement at the time.
To put these words into picture, one only need look back to the beginning of his UFC career. Conor McGregor weighed in on a UFC scale for the first time on the 5th of April, 2013. Fighting at heavyweight, McGregor was the definition of lean – a fighter so fast he could shut your lights out without you having blinked. He fought at featherweight (145 pounds) till he defeated Jose Aldo to win the belt.
Moving up was to be a good decision for the “Mystic Mac” – he became the promotion’s first concurrent double champ, beating Eddie Alvarez in 2016. Since then, he has fluctuated between the 155 and 170-pound divisions.
After beating Eddie Alvarez on that fateful night in MSG, McGregor has gone on to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier (twice) in the lightweight division, and Nate Diaz (twice) and “Cowboy” Cerrone in the welterweight division. Importantly, he also fought Floyd Mayweather in a big money boxing match in 2017. The bout was contested at light middleweight, which is 154 pounds.
At the moment, McGregor looks ready for the light heavyweight division, as his fans usually joke. The man, who has brought the most amount of eyeballs to the sport deserves some time off, enjoying life without bending his body for the pursuit of gold. Till he returns to the octagon, fight fans will have to suffice themselves with more stills and videos on set, of their favourite Irishman.
