West Ada school, mother at odds over immunization requirements

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) — Sara Brady's son was supposed to start kindergarten at Ustick Elementary on Wednesday.

"It's very frustrating to tell him on his first day of school that he can't go," said Brady in a Facebook Live.

Her son does not have the proper vaccinations due to religious beliefs, something that is totally legal in Idaho.

"Well in some vaccines there is actually fetal cells in it and I believe that abortion falls under murder in the 10 commandments," said Brady,

Under Idaho State Law, in order to enroll a child in public school they must have the proper immunizations or fill out an exemption form.

Sara Brady does not want to do either.

"So what I did is I made my own statement that per Idaho law is the only thing that's required and I was told I could have it stapled to the back in lieu of it and they didn't accept it. "

According to Idaho law, while parents can attach their own statement to the back of the exemption form, they still have to sign the state issued statement.

"I couldn't actually sign the statement that they had provided me because it didn't originate from me you cant force me to sign a statement that health and welfare creates for me. That's odd to me."

West Ada School District responded saying they are just following the state code.

"All I'm asking for is the school officials, the West Ada School District to follow the law and allow my child to attend kindergarten because I did follow what Idaho code says," Brady said.
