Small plane makes emergency belly landing at Boise Airport

A small airplane experienced a mechanical problem on landing at the Boise Airport Monday, prompting a brief closure of the north runway.

Airport spokesman Sean Briggs said three people were on board the twin-engine Cessna aircraft, but nobody was injured.

Briggs said the incident happened around 11:45 a.m. as the Cessna was landing. Briggs said the mechanical problem caused the plane to veer off the runway to a designated safe spot where aircraft can park if they're having mechanical difficulty.

The mishap did not interrupt airport operations, Briggs said. "But it is unusual."

Briggs said the nature of the mechanical problem is unclear at this time. He could not confirm if a landing gear collapsed.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
