Odell Beckham Jr. adds $20 million to his $40 million net worth by winning massive lawsuit aga

Odell Beckham Jr. achieved something incredible. He fought and almost won a lawsuit against the sports apparel brand, Nike.

On Thursday, a Multnomah County Circuit Court jury awarded no damages to either Beckham or Nike for a breach of contract case in the Miami Dolphins wide receiver‘s filed in 2022. In the suit, Beckham accused the company of withholding loyalty from him.

Nike posted a countersuit against the 31-year-old, claiming he modified his glove without prior permission. According to them, the act was a breach of contract.

Beckham reportedly wanted $862,000 in damages from Nike, which they refused. Eventually, the jury did not charge either party with any foul play.

The verdict read that neither Nike withheld any royalty from the NFL player nor Beckham breached the contract by customizing his gloves. Later, the Super Bowl winner with the Los Angeles Rams shared a message on Instagram.

Just do right @Nike…  I wanna take this moment to thank God first and foremost thank you Heavenly Father. I wanna thank my team for every hour they have spent preparing on this case. I wanna thank the jury for simply doing what’s right in a world full of wrong… my message to whoever needs this is, STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN! JUSTICE WAS SERVED!!!

Why did Odell Beckham Jr. sue Nike in the first place?

OBJ’s craze for trendy clothing is nothing new. He has made waves with his style since his LSU days. When he joined the New York Giants in 2014, Nike also signed a big deal with him.

In 2017, Adidas came in with a $47 million contract, but according to the Portland Business Journal, Nike had the first right to refuse. OBJ penned a new five-year deal with Nike.

He made customizations to boots and gloves, which Nike’s lawyer, Maurice Suh, claimed that his client did not permit.

Mr. Beckham fundamentally believes the rules don’t apply to him.

However, OBJ’s defendant posted a counterargument. The company only made Beckham aware of the term when the contract was about to end in 2022. Furthermore, they did not expect Nike to penalize Beckham by not paying royalties for making changes to their product.

Beckham’s lawyer also had additional claims attached to the lawsuit, which amounted to $20 million. However, the jury dismissed the case, and OBJ had to be happy with the ruling, which was a stalemate in the end.
