It seems African footballers would never stop being bedevilled with age cheating accusations.
Nigerian Michael Emenayo, who plays in Azerbaijan for Shahdagh Qusar FK, is reportedly under investigation for age cheating after his own club accused him of reducing his age.
The club says Emenayo lied about his age, which currently is officially 23 – and that he’s actually around 43 years old. They also believe the forward’s passport based on which he was signed is a fake.
But Emenayo has kicked against the accusation.
“How can anybody claim or ascertain that I am not 23-years-old merely by my looks.” he told New Fanzone Blog.
“I am not a cheat.”
Age cheating accusations against African players is nothing new, and Nigeria especially are notoriously suspected of being serial age cheats.
